The Chesapeake Bay Art Association, CBAA, is the only local art organization to award college scholarships to talented graduating seniors who plan to further their education in the field of art. Every year, over 50 area schools are invited to be in our scholarship program.
Since its inception the CBAA has offered a scholarship to a local high school graduate to aid them in continuing their art studies in college. Charter member Mr. John B. Tenney began fund raising efforts by donating one of his paintings for auction. Due to Mr. Tenney’s efforts and support, the tradition of raising funds for the scholarship grew and expanded to become part of all CBAA shows.
Upon his death in 1989, the members of the CBAA renamed the fund the “John B. Tenney Memorial Scholarship Fund” in his honor. The scholarship is presented at our annual Spring Members Show, in which the student finalists art is shown along with our members!
Due to recent events and the Covid-19 guidelines established by our governor, the CBAA has moved the Awards and Presentations to The Ocean View Art Show in Fall. The Scholarship winners will be announced at our Student Tent.
All student work must be framed and/or ready for hanging (no saw tooth hangers). Students must be sure to label the back of 2D art or the underside of 3D art with labels provided in the application. Any work dropped off for display must remain for the duration of the show. The show will be October 10 and 11, 2020.
The Chesapeake Bay Art Association is always impressed with the work of so many talented students, and this makes for a difficult, yet pleasurable task for our Scholarship Committee. To give all seniors the opportunity to compete for this prestigious award, please email/post the available flyer on any school related website and/or on your scholarship website. We are looking forward to receiving entries from your school and wish all participating students "Good Luck."
DEADLINE for Scholarship applications is June 25th, 2020. Scholarship recipients will be notified by September 1st.
