John B. Tenney Memorial Art Scholarship

The CBAA is the only local art organization to award college scholarships to talented graduating seniors who plan to further their education in the field of art. Every year, over 50 area schools are invited to be in our scholarship program.

Since its inception the Chesapeake Bay Art Association has offered a scholarship to a local high school graduate to aid them in continuing their art studies in college. Charter member Mr. John B. Tenney began fund raising efforts by donating one of his paintings for auction. Due to Mr. Tenney’s efforts and support the tradition of raising funds for the scholarship grew and expanded to become part of all CBAA shows.

Upon his death in 1989, the members of the CBAA renamed the fund the “John B. Tenney Memorial Scholarship Fund” in his honor. The scholarship is presented at our annual Spring Members Show, in which the student finalists art is shown along with our members!

The Scholarship winners will be announced at our Opening Awards Reception at the gallery on May 2nd beginning at 6:30 PM. Students are asked to attend the reception where they will be introduced and receive their checks and ribbons for the scholarship awards.

All student work must be framed and/or ready for hanging (no saw tooth hangers). Students must be sure to label the back of 2D art or the underside of 3D art with labels provided in the application. Any work dropped off for display must remain for the duration of the show. The show will be May 2 – May 11, 2020. The applicants’ Guidance Counselors or teachers are asked to acknowledge that the students have applied to colleges and say which school is being considered in their application for the scholarships. The Chesapeake Bay Art Association is always impressed with the work of so many talented students, and this makes for a difficult, yet pleasurable task for our Scholarship Committee. To give all seniors the opportunity to compete for this prestigious award, please post the flyer we have included which can be downloaded or posted manually in offices, classrooms or on your scholarship website. We are looking forward to receiving entries from your school and wish all participating students "Good Luck".

DEADLINE for Scholarship applications is April 10th, 2020
